Socotra: Degub Cave
Socotra’s southern coast is also home to a large cavern known as Degub Cave. A short hike leads to a massive overhang and entrance to what really is more of a grotto then a cave. There are sign of people living here in recent past – some primitive stone structures and fireplaces. In the back of the cavern, a small passageway – very narrow and dark – leads probably another 100-200m to some small deeper rooms in the cave where the only mammals on Socotra live – the endemic and rare bats – and you can come face to face with them!
