Ukraine: Dubno Castle
Not far from Tarakanivskiy Fort stands The Dubno Castle. The castle was built in 1492 by a Polish prince Ostrogski and then further rebuilt and fortified in the 16th century under the Great Duchy of Lithuania with a two-story palace, church, massive walls with corner towers and 73 cannons. Heavy fighting happened here between the Cossacks and Poles in the 17th century, before Russia took possession of it and pushed the border further west, making it militarily irrelevant. Some of the building were further rebuilt in the early 20th century. Walking around the castle, you get to gaze at impressive walls and towers and the drawbridge over a moat.
