Ukraine: Matkiv – Wooden St Dmytro’s Church
Matkiv is a tiny village in the Carpathian Mountains and it holds the UNESCO World Heritage-listed wooden St. Dmytro’s Church of the Holy Virgin. The church was built in 1831 to replace an older wooden church that stood here, the new church was built on the Boiko style and is now considered to be one of the finest examples of this architectural approach. The church has 3 domes and the main dome has 8 levels to it, while the other two have 6 each. And just two kilometers away in Matkiv, there is yet another Boiko style wooden church, albeit with slightly fewer levels.
