USA/MT: Glacier NP – Avalanche Lake Hike
Logan Pass was still closed when we got to the Park National Park, as was the entire eastern portion of the park. So the Avalanche Lake hike was a spectacular choice for exploring one of the most spectacular national parks in the USA. The hike goes through a cedar forest until reaching a stunning bowl of the Avalanche Lake, that sits at the base of 8694-foot Bearhat Mountain, which rises almost 4800 feet above the lake towards the northeast. The mountain dominating the view towards the south is 7886-foot Little Matterhorn. Snow still covers the mountain tops and waterfalls cascading all around. The water in the lake was super freezing but refreshing after a hike. Oh, and chipmunks and deer along the trail.
