USA/MT: Glacier NP – Orchids
Hiking along the continental divide in the Glacier National Park (the line that separates the watersheds of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans), it was a total showcase of orchids – we probably found over a dozen species in full blooming glory: white bog orchids, slender bog orchids, green bog orchids, northern green orchids, two different t saprophytic (no chlorofil) red orchids – stripped coralroot and spotted coralroot, and even mountain lady slipper orchids! Plus tons of other subalpine plants, including beargrass, mariposa lilies, pink pyrolas, Indian paintbrush, and so much more. An absolute botanist’s paradise!
