USA/CA: Point Arena Lighthouse
Another spectacular lighthouse is at the Point Arena, a stunning headland with cliffs and tons of small rocky islets offshore with hundreds of seals plastered all over them. The first lighthouse was built here in 1870 and the current slender white structure went up in 1907. The landscapes are stunning all around with sandy beaches and cliffs and apparently plenty of hidden sandbars in the water – hence the need for lighthouse, especially in the coastal fog that almost never disappears here. And by the way – most of the California Coast is a National Monument.
