Turkey: Ephesus
Ephesus is another must see of the Greco-Roman archaeological sites and it’s also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Founded in the 10th century BC, Ephesus was once one of the largest cities in Asia Minor with over 250,000 inhabitants. The Romans further expanded the city once the took control of it in 129 BC. The site is vast and easily takes half a day to traverse from one entrance to another and to fully explore. Main attractions include a huge theater, Gate of the Augustus, ruins of Temple of Artemis(one of the seven wonders of the ancient world), Temple of Hadrian, Library of Celsus (third largest on the world and the most impressive structure here). Plenty of long streets with columns and wall engraved with elaborate carvings.
