Zimbabwe: Mana Pools NP – Lions
Just driving from the Mana airstrip (literally a strip of red sand in the middle of the bush), we right from the get-go we stumbled on lions – seven of them in fact! A big male, several females, and a couple of cubs – all lying around under the shadow of trees and sleeping. Lions have a reputation of spending nearly 95% of their time sleeping, and male lions go as high as 99%, appearing lazy and non-moving. The next morning we saw two more male lions (different than the day before) and they also just lounged around all day – we saw them literally in the same spot in the evening on the afternoon game drive. Finally on the third day, two more male lions were seen lying around a fresh buffalo kill – with fat bellies and bloody faces. When it comes to lions – Mana Pools National Park truly delivered.
