Kenya: Tsavo West NP – Shetani Lava Flows
Tsavo West National Park – a vast and little visited park with some spectacular landscapes, influenced by relatively recent volcanism. One of the biggest attractions here is the massive Shetani Lava Flow in the western side of the park, over 50 sq km of black lava as far as the eyes can see. The last major eruption here is believed to have happened around 200 years ago, but there are still very few plants among rocky lava flows. The area s inhospitable and alien and further surrounded by cinder cones everywhere. It’s such a contract – green mountains and black lave, and it totally feels like you are in Hawaii and not in Kenya
