Kenya: Tsavo West NP – Landscapes of Tsavo West NP
It’s really a shame that Tsavo West National Park gets overlooked by many who come to Africa’s wilderness – perhaps because it’s so vast and supposedly less packed with wildlife then other smaller parks. Together with Tsavo East, the two form one of the largest protected area in the world, 4% of Kenya’s territory. Come here during the green season – and the landscapes are truly surreal. The park has a very varied terrain, from sea level to 3000 ft in elevation, with a lot of volcanic cinder cones and hills, lava flows, valleys, and forest-covered bushland. There are a lot of granite rocky outcrops and boulders that rise abruptly above the surrounding landscape. But it’s the color of the dirt roads – bright orange clay – that blow you away!
