Mexico/Baja Sur: La Paz
La Paz is the capital of Baja California Sur. At 250k population, this is the largest city in the entire peninsula. La Paz has one of the highest standards of living and security in the entire Mexico. It’s a beautiful town, right on the water, with many fantastic restaurantsand hotels. The historic city center has several worthy attractions – the two-towered Cathedral of La Paz from the middle of the 19th century, a beautiful square in front of it, the Old City Hall (now Museo de Arte), Teatro Juarez from 1910, and much more. But the real show-stopper is the Malecon – the city-long promenade running along the beautiful beach – the place to be and explore. The sunsets are stunning, and the entire boardwalk is full of statues and monuments of whales, whale sharks, pelicans, and so on. Among the most emblematic sculptures are La Perla, a statue of Jacques Cousteau, as well as the letters of LA PAZ, the ideal place to take a pic with the sunset in the background. The Malecon is full of life, absolutely safe, and we walked it end to end a couple oftimes.
