Egypt/Sinai: Exploring Sinai Desert
A huge chuck of the Southern Sinai desert is protected as Taba Protectied Area, a whopping 3,595 sq km. It’s an amazingly beautiful landscape of sands, red and yellow sandstone cliffs, but also caves and slot canyons. The area is very sparsely populated by beduins – nomadic Arab tribes. A lot of adventures can be had here – from racing Jeeps across sinking sands to quad biking to riding camels. The Taba protected area is also home to a lot of endemic animal species, most of which are rarely seen – the reserve is know to contain 25 mammals, 50 kinds of rare birds, 24 species of reptiles and 480 species of plants.
