Egypt/Sinai: Pharaoh Island & Saladin Citadel
Pharaoh Island lies at the very top of the Gulf of Aqaba. Crusaders captured the island in 1110s and built a fortress, calling it Ile de Graye. Several decades later, Muslim armies led by Saladin re-conquered the strategic island and built a huge citadel, that proudly stands to this day. A quick boat cruise takes you all around the Pharaoh island and the citadel and further out into the Gulf of Aqaba, where you can see four countries – Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, and Egypt.
