Iceland: Hengifoss Falls
And one more waterfall in Iceland – Hengifoss – that was worth a long hike to. Hengifoss is the third tallest waterfall in the country at 128 meters of a vertical drop. This waterfall is absolutely spectacular, cascading over a cliff and surrounded with columnar basalt that has different layers of different strata and colors. The different colors represent different lava and ash from different volcanic eruptions (like circles in a tree trunk). The final part of the trail was unfortunately closed, but the high overlook offered an awesome panorama from a distance. One of the top waterfalls in Iceland and definitely way off the beaten path.
