France: Larressingle
Larressingle is a tiny village in the heart of rural Gascony, and it’s one of the last remaining fully fortified villages in France. Built in the 13th century, it has a thick wall surrounding everything, a moat, fortress gate, ramparts and towers. It is often compared to a mini-version of Carcassonne. That it’s probably not, but you can have the entire fortress to yourself, especially if you stay a boutique hotel right next door and see Laressingle
