Kazakhstan: Akmeshit Cave
Akmeshit Cave is a spectacular single cavern that is totally unusual in the middle of the Kazakh steppe about 90km north of Shymkent. It’s nothing more then a hole in the ground level, but once you descend down – it is a humongous cavern with partially collapsed entrance. The name means “White Mosque” and in fact people come here to pray and there is a preacher on site all the time. Aside from the religious aspect, it’s just a stunning natural site.
