Kyrgyzstan: Jeti Oguz Gorge in Snow
About 30km outside of Karakol lies the geological formation of Jeti Oguz Red Rocks – an exposed strata of red-colored rock hills – famous as a natural landmark all over Kyrgyzstan. Last time I was here it was in the middle of summer, and what a change of landscape it was now – a flash snowstorm the night before dumped nearly a foot of snow and the colors of red rocks vs white powder vs dark green fur trees looked stunning. Jeti Oguz means “seven bulls” referring to the hunger of res monoliths (although we counted twelve). There’s also another rock formation nearby – Broken Heart – where a giant rock is split in two halves.
