UAE/Ras Al Khaimah: Al Hisn Fort & National Museum
Ras Al Khaimah – this emirate is split into two territories – one occupying part of the Musandam peninsula and another further inland and south. The heart of the city of Ras Al Khaimah (the capital and by far the largest city in the emirate) has the former royal residence of the sheikh family (until 1964) and now a national museum. The fort was actually founded in the 16th century and withstood some serious attacks by the British in 1819 when pirates hid in there. The museum contains cast collections of archaeological artifacts as far back as the Iron Age, many coins and pottery. And you can get to the rooftop of the fort for a view.
