Jordan: Bethany Beyond the Jordan
Bethany beyond the Jordan aka Al-Maghtas is the site where supposedly Jesus was baptized. While there is zero evidence beyond some mention in the Bible of Jesus or anybody for that matter having been baptized on these waters, Jordan vehemently treats it as the famous site, UNESCO gave it the world heritage designation, and throngs of religious revelries pay $$ to see this green stale water pit. It’s expensive, requires a shuttle ride and then a walk and security check being close to Israeli border – long story short – we didn’t make it that far as it seemed like a waste of time.
