Outer Hebrides: St Clements Church
An absolute must see site in the Isle of Harris in Outer Hebrides is the old St Clements aka Rodel Church (it’s worth a long drive to the very bottom of the island). The church dates back to the late 15th century and was built for the Chiefs of the MacLeonds of Harris who rules the islands. The medieval church is laid out in a cruciform with a tower on the western side. Inside there are multiple chapels with elaborate burial tombs that MacLeods built for themselves, often names some of the most ornate tombs in Scotland. There is a lot of stone carving inside, and not just biblical scenes but local wildlife and flora.
