No trip to Lubeck is complete without a stop at the Niederegger Marzipan store and cafe. The store and marzipan factory dates back to the Hanseatic League day of 1806, and is classified as 100% marzipan. The Niederegger marzipan was produced with much less sugar then other marzipans and was extremely highly sought after for the extreme quality, often considered the choice of kings and queens. Located opposite the Town Hall, the store and factory used to produce marzipan as far back as the 12th century! There is a cafe in premises and a mini museum and loads and loads of marzipan to try and buy and enjoy.
