Greenland: Segelsalskapet – Hiking
It was another long 6-hour hike starting at 6:30am on the beach and climbing up along the ridges of a glacial valley at Segelsalskapet, with the view of glacier and ice wall higher up. Incredible desolate landscapes all around and a river running down from the glacier, braided and white-watered with silt. We had to cross the river to the other side and then return along the ridge via a plateau (spotted a stoat aka weasel – small furry carnivore). Tons of Arctic flora, fields of fireweed flowers in the rocks, and the fog and clouds lifting slowly to reveal colorful mountain tops across the fjord, plus a large boggy area framed in the Arctic cotton grass.
