Greenland: Town of Ilulissat
The town of Ilulissat is located 250km north of the Arctic circle at 69 degrees north and is the third biggest town in Greenland with only 4.7 thousand people. “Ilulisat” means “city if icebergs” in Greenlandic. It’s extremely scenic, located on mountains on the promontory next to the icefjord, with insane views in pretty much any direction. Icebergs are everywhere you look; the houses are painted in beautiful bright colors, there are boats/snowmobile/sleds all around town, there is a port and a marina (big halibut processing factory), small airport, less then 10km of roads, Greenland’s oldest church, and thousands of Greenland husky dogs (next post). Free education and healthcare, unlimited seal/caribou/musk ox hunting, limited whale hunting (but not species specific, so belugas/narwhals/bowhead whales can sadly be hunted).
