Lithuania: Kaunas – Monument to the Victims of Fascism

At the turn of the last century, Kaunas had a significant population of Jews in Lithuania. When the country was occupied by Nazi, the entire Jewish population of over 50,000 was pushed into the Fort IX on the outskirts of the city. During the years of the occupation all but few were exterminate, plus thousands of German and Polish Jews brought here. It took until 1991 for the monument of three stellae to be built here, a solemn monument, especially in winter.
