Guatemala: Antigua – Chicken Buses
One can’t miss colorful chicken buses in Antigua in particular and Guatemala in general. Many are true masterpieces of vehicular art – transforming the typical US school bus into a “transformer”-like creation. Nobody actually calls it “chicken bus” here and the term is mildly offensive to locals but probably refers to the fact that buses are usually crammed to the rim and often with domestic animals and chicken. The local name is “camioneta”. In Antigua, there is a massive bus depot when you can see dozens and dozens of the super colorful buses being taken care of by the drivers with wheels rimmed, and chrome bumpers polished. Totally spectacular and amazing!
