Syria: Homs
Homs was the third largest city in Syria before the civil war, strategically position on the crossroads of Damascus to Aleppo route with the Mediterranean coast to desert route. Homs was the major opposition stronghold – mostly terrorist Al Nusra Front – for most of the three years between 2011-14 and under a siege by the Syrian forces. The front line in many parts ran through the city and fighting and demolition was especially devastating and severe. Much of Homs today lies in ruins, with life very slowly attempting to return. Homs had a citadel and several very old churches, but everything got severely damaged.
