Ascension: White Terns
The cloud forest on the outskirts of the Green Mountain National Park is home to hundreds of beautiful white terns nesting on the eucalyptus branches. White terns are also know as fairy terns and angel terns, probably for the way they flutter over their branches like little angels. These elegant seabirds are known for their acrobatic flight displays, soaring and swooping through the air with grace. These are true seabirds, going out to see every day to fish on small fish and squid, they are excellent divers. Interestingly, they lay eggs straight on the thick branches without any nests or material support.
