Nauru: Buada Lagoon
Nauru doesn’t have fresh water except at the brackish Buada Lagoon, an inland pond fed by underground streams and surrounded by jungle vegetation. The lagoon is a closed body of water located near the center of the island, there is no outflow to other bodies of water such as oceans or rivers. The area around the lagoon is lush with vegetation, providing a habitat for various bird species. It is a designated wildlife sanctuary. The lagoon is only 0.05 sq miles (0.13 sq km). The freshwater lagoon has a huge historical significance and was used in the past for raising the milkfish for consumption.
