Tonga/Vava‘u: Pacific Kingfisher
An endemic species, Pacific Kingfisher (Todiramphus sacer) can be found on many islands in the Pacific, often with slight variation in coloration and size. The colors are bright blue with a white mask on the face. Like many other kingfishers, these guys are skilled hunters, going after crabs, insects, frogs. If fact, we witnessed a hunt, where the kingfisher stalked a frog for quite some tie before a successful strike and the consumption that ensued.
