Kiritimati: Poland
On the far other end of the massive crescent of the Kiritimati island lies a tiny settlement of Poland, less than 500 people, mostly engaged in coconut farming. The name comes after a Polish plantation manager Stanislas Pelzynski who taught the locals how to irrigate the coconut palms better. The local church was also named Stanislas Church.
