Hawaii/Big Island: Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory
While macadamia nuts are originally from Queensland in Australia, they commercial adoption and production is really associated with Hawaii, and the nuts are sometimes called “Hawaiian nuts”. Nuts were planted on several Hawaiian islands, but mostly on the Big Island. The Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation is to this date the world’s largest single producer. You can see the production facility and sample several nut varieties – salted, roasted, chocolate-covered and so on. More interesting are the actually macadamia nut groves, where you can try fresh off the tree raw nuts! Delicious!
