South Korea: DMZ – Dorasan Observatory

The most impressive site at the DMZ is the Dorasan Observatory – a high point on top of the Mount Dora. You can have absolutely panoramic views into the North Korea. Clearly visible on a good day are Kijong-dong Village (which is actually a fake propaganda village and nobody lives there), outskirts of the North Korean city of Kaesong, second largest city in the country, a tall flagpole with the North Korean flag. You can even see North Koreans toiling in the rice fields through observation binoculars. This is one of the closest point that visitors can be to North Korea on a tour of the DMZ. You can also see the Joint Security Area or JSA – the only point of connection between North and South Korea and the place were all negotiations take place. It was here that an American soldier ran into North Korea a few months ago. Since COVID – no access for tourist to this spot.
