Guinea-Bissau: Orango Island – Beaches & Offshore Fishing

Orango Island has some stunning white sand beaches with ultra fine sand, sand bars going out into the water, baobabs almost near the water, and absolutely no people, totally empty and deserted. Even the very tiny Ponte Anchaca Sul mini lodge is hardly used. Many beaches are used by sea turtle during the egg-laying season. Also, we did some fishing here just offfshore. While, the Bijagos offers opportunity for some big-game fishing and the waters are teaming with fish, we just tried something very basic – a line with a chuck of fish on the end – and pulled several fish in just minutes, including a remora or sucketfish, the one that usually attaches itself to sharks. Sadly, inedible.
