Guinea-Bissau: Bijagos Islands Birds

The Bijagos Archipelago is a critical habitat for a wide variety of bird species, thanks to its diverse ecosystems including mangroves, mudflats, beaches, jungles, and coastal areas. While we don’t do any bird tours per se, we saw plenty of birds all around, including herons, gulls, weavers, sandpipers, hummingbirds, and so on. The most stunning however was the local species of beeeater – Blue-cheeked Beeeater (Merops Persicus).
