Mali: Missirikoro

Missirkoro is a natural and spiritual site in the south of Mali near the town of Sikasso, about 12km to the west. It’s a collection of cliffs and rock formations and caves that have eroded from soft sandstone. Many of the caves have been used for spiritual purposes for centuries. One of the caves is a sacred mosque, while another cave in a different area is an animist sacrificial, full of animals skulls and chicken feathers (and accompanying stench). Some caves and grottoes are quite large, several have seeping water, and the views are quite stunning both from the outside and inside.
