Germany: Frankfurt am Main – Frankfurt Cathedral
While it is known as the Frankfurt Cathedral aka Frankfurter Dom, it is technically just a church, albeit huge and spectacular. St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, commonly known as Frankfurt Cathedral, is a stunning piece of Gothic architecture located in the heart of Frankfurt, Germany. The spiky gothic structure dates back to 14th century and the church had a massive historical importance – between 1356-1562 the kings of Holy Roman Empire were crowned here and between 1562-1790 German emperors were enthroned here. The soaring gothic structure true has been referred to Dom but never was really a Bishop’s seat.
