Papua New Guinea: Port Moresby – Parliament House

The National Parliament House, opened in 1984 by Prince Charles, is a spectacular building in the heart of the otherwise drab town, on high ground and surrounded by a vast green plane. The main “Parliament Haus” building is built in the traditional style of a Sepik-river tribal haus tambaran, while the nearby circular cafeteria structure follows Highland design. The spectacular mosaic features colorful and very elaborate Papuan motives. You are allowed to enter inside as well, but the photography is not permitted – a humongous wood carving masque or statues represents the four regions of PNG, there are also other treasures and lizard skin drums.
