Algeria: Constantine – Sidi M’Cid Bridge

Constantine is perched on a plateau that is dramatically bisected by the Rhumel River, creating deep gorges and ravines. This unique geography has led to the construction of several notable bridges, including the most famous – Sidi M’Cid Bridge. Completed in 1912, the bridge was designed by the French engineer Ferdinand Arnodin. It is a suspension bridge, featuring a main span of 160 m (525 feet) and a total length of 164 m (538 feet). The bridge is standing 175 m (574 feet) above the river, which makes it one of the highest bridges in the world. It is an iconic structure in Constantine, often viewed as the symbol of the city.
