Philippines/Luzon: Mayon Volcano

Mayon Volcano is a perfectly-shaped conical stratovolcano and one of the most active in Philippines. It is a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage. The volcano rises to 2,463 m (8,081 ft), and is near constantly erupting, 52 times in the last 500 years. The 1814 eruption was particularly destructive, annihilating the town of Casgawa and dumping tons of tephra ash. The volcano was cloud covered for our entire stay in the air and only opened up when we were boarding the place – and we saw lava flowing down the slopes!v
