Japan/Shikoku: Imabari Castle
Another very picturesque and awesome Japanese castle lies near the sea in the small town of Imabari. Originally built in in the middle of 17th century, it was subsequently destroyed and then rebuilt in the 1980s. The castle, surrounded by a rectangular moat and walls, lies only a few street blocks inland from the Seto Inland Sea and is famous in Japan as one of the the three Mizujiro, or “Castles on the sea”. Amazing views of the castle can be had from the outside with the castle tower reflecting in the waters of the moat. But you climb to the top floor for panoramic view out to see. There is also an extensive museum inside the castle.
