Cuba: Santiago de Cuba – Emilio Bacardi Museum
Another Museum facing the central square in Santiago de Cuba is former house of Emilio Bacardi, a name and family in many ways associated with the city. It was built in 1899 by the rum-magnate and city mayor, Emilio Bacardí y Moreau and is one of Cuba’s oldest and most eclectic buildings, with a collection of Cuban paintings and some artifacts amassed from Bacardí’s travels. The yellow building is more or less in good condition (a bit crumbling like anything in Cuba), and has a collection of art, artifacts, and historical documents related to Cuban history and culture. The grand halls and decorated rooms get an idea of the former grandeur, and the view onto the cathedral and main square is awesome.
