Cuba: Santiago de Cuba – Exploring the City

Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city in Cuba with around half a million in population. The center city is fairly compact, laid out on a hilly terrain and in a more or less grid format. Lots of old historic buildings, many crumbling and falling apart, lots of museums and old mansions, lots of churches, and quite a few parks. It’s an amazing place to experience Cuba and see its people and witness life seemingly stuck frozen half a century ago. Many restaurants and shops are semi closed given the electricity problems and blackouts, people standing in massive line to get cash from banks, and store shelves mostly bare.
