Cuba: Santiago de Cuba – Plaza de Revolucion
The Plaza de la Revolución in Santiago de Cuba is a historic square, somewhat similar to the one in Havana. The square features the Moncada Barracks, which was famously attacked by Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries in 1953, marking the beginning of the Cuban Revolution. The square is home to the Antonio Maceo Monument, dedicated to a prominent figure in Cuban independence history. The statue is 16m high plus there are 23 metallic elements similar to machetes, symbolizing the rebel spirit of the Cubans.
