Cuba: Gran Piedra – Tasting Puro Cafe Cubano

The Sierra Maestra Mountains are famous for its coffee plantations (next post) and you can try an authentic pure Cuban coffee here, made in simple but flavorful way over an open fire, filtered and pressed through a rough crude mesh, and mixed with brown sugar. Cafe cubana is actually somewhat different from a classic espresso, the sugar is added before brewing making it a different flavor profile, much sweeter and seemingly stronger. We sampled some at a simple coffee farmer stand, the beans are semi-wild grown, small in size, dark-roasted.
