Cuba: Cuevas del Paraiso Archaeological Complex

Before Columbus arrived in Baracoa, the area was inhabited by indigenous Taino Indians. A complex of caves and underground passage high in the mountains above the town now has an archaeological museum displaying many artifacts from the pre-Colombian times – totem poles, stone statues, pottery, tools and weapons cans even skeletons and skulls – apparently the caves served as Taino burial chambers. There is also a spectacular panoramic view from top with the entire town of Baracoa and the coastline beyond right in front of you.
