Latvia: Turaida Castle
Turaida Castle sits high above the Gauia river below and offers panoramic views of the surrounding valley and forest. The castle was built in the 1300s and later became the outpost of the Teutonic Order. The entire complex sits on a steep impregnable hill with access only from one side, nevertheless, thick high walls protect the courtyard. You can climb the spiral staircase in the central tower for even more spectacular views from above.
