Austria: Vienna – St. Stephen’s Cathedral
The most important cathedral in Vienna, this magnificent gothic building sits in the very heart of the city and allows superb panoramic views from one of its two towers. The cathedral dates to 1160 and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The towers are the same and rise 136m/446ft above the central Vienna. The exterior and interior are very lavishly decorated, although it is rather dark inside. A five person elevator whisks you to the rooftop. A freak thunderstorm hit Vienna just before the sunset and then the sun came out allowing for the most incredible hew of yellow on the cathedral and even a rainbow.
