Guam: Driving around the island

Compared to pristine and unique pacific islands that I saw before Guam, it’s a total tourist trap crowded with package-deal tourists. Hordes and hordes of Japanese and Koreans come here to experience America and have a beach vacation (except the northern part of the islands which is a vast US Air Force base). The beaches are mediocre at best, the resorts and hotels are kitchy and boring and generic. The capital Hadatha has some interesting historic and religious sites. There is also War In The Pacific museum and sites with various battlefields and canons remaining from WWII. Nice scenic shorelines at places. And finally the Two Lovers point, where basically a beautiful panoramic view was commercialized into “must see and leave a plastic trinket” destination. Guam is also a place for Japanese to get married, so don’t be surprised as wedding scenes are staged pretty much everywhere by professional wedding photographers – dinky beach, Burger King, lovers point, shopping mall, Taco Bell, Hard Rock Cafe, McDonald’s….
