Mauritius: Rhumerie de Chamarel

Rhumerie de Chamarel is a rum distillery of one of the best rums made in this part of the world – it is export only to countries in Europe and Australia. Two types of rum made here – double distilled (46%) and single distilled (42%) plus a variety of rum infused liqueurs (vanilla, tangerine, coffee, etc.). Everything is ecofriendly here – only local sugarcane used for juice and then the stalks are used for fuel for distillation. Very smooth rum, especially the VSOP version (or maybe it was just tasting too many shots), but sadly not available in the USA.
