Madagascar: Sabotsy Market in Antsirabe
One of the most incredible markets I have ever seen. You get your standard fruits and vegetable, and trinkets, but then there is fish and meat (sausages made in front of you, entire cow heads and hearts on display, as well as all sorts of intestines). Just nearby are live animals (chicken, ducks, turkeys). Bizarrely – pigeons, kittens (I was told not for food), baby ducklings. Right next row – prepared foods are boiling. It’s beyond hectic and messy, overwhelming all your senses. And all around little children and running and playing while their mothers are breast feeding even younger ones.
